Plain Jane Textiles

Plain Jane Textiles

I'm Jane Rocca and I design and make 'Plain Jane Textiles'.

I grew up in Leigh on Sea in Essex.  At Loughborough College of Art I trained as a Jeweller and Silversmith, and graduated with a degree. I then set up my own little business making and selling silver jewellery.  For a couple of years I had a tiny shop at a crafts centre in the Brecon Beacons.

After relocating to Herefordshire and getting married, I had my two children and devoted all my time to them.  But that need to be creative was always there.  I had always loved to sew, and while making blinds and curtains for our house, I realised how much I loved it!  I made a 'Wendy house' for the girls, and dressing up outfits for them to play in.

When my youngest daughter started school, I began to make some simple bags and aprons and cushions and took them to local Christmas fairs and sold some.  That was 2008.

In 2009, with the backing of a local family charity, me and my friend Jo opened a craft shop in Bromyard (Herefordshire).  'The HOPE Emporium'.  We volunteer to run the shop and along side our own makes - we sell crafts made by many other local crafts people.  I've had quite alot of success selling my textiles locally, so now in 2011 my challenge is to find new customers via the internet.

I love what I do, and I really put my heart into every thing that I make.  I strive to be original and to produce high quality textile pieces.  I adore colour and spend a long time deciding which colours go well together.  The job enables me to spend hours visiting fabric shops and choosing buttons and ribbons, Heaven!
